Each year the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band are given the opportunity to compete with other bands at a regional festival. Typically this a Music in the Parks or Festival of Music event. The trip is decided upon in the Fall of each school year and takes place in the Spring. The students work through out the school year both practicing their performances and raising funds. In addition to performing the students are able to take in cultural and entertaining events during the trip. These trips provide an invaluable experience for our students and provide lasting memories.
The goal of Festivals of Music & Music in the Parks, among the largest and widespread festival organizations across the United States and Canada, is to provide middle school and high school students with positive and constructive feedback throughout the competition process, all while validating the tremendous amount of hours that go into the preparation for a performance festival. All groups are adjudicated by college professors, professional musicians and clinicians, and are subsequently ranked among each other according to difficulty of music and rated based on numeric score. Comments are digitally recorded by each adjudicator and given to the directors so that students and directors alike can reflect on their performance.
